Ausangate Trek 4 days

Ausangate is the highest mountain in the region of Cusco, through which you can trek rewarded by splendid views of snow-capped peaks, hot springs, turquoise lakes, glaciers, herds of llamas and alpacas, picturesque villages and traditionally dressed Quechua people. This is a moderate to challenging trek, not technical with several high passes and often freezing cold nights so is important to be prepared.

Beautiful four-day Ausangate trek starts in the remote village of Chilca and finishes in the small Andean village of Tinki and takes you around the massif of Ausangate Mountain. The Ausangate trek offers the ultimate and complete trekking experience in the Ausangate region. Truly a traverse strenuous itinerary fits best to the ambitions trekkers intent on crossing the high altitude passes with the hike to the smaller peaks without the commitment to any technical climbing skills – purely a challenging trekking holidays in the Peruvian Andes.

This Ausangate trek trip is a physically demanding trekking adventure which crosses two high passes linking the three distinct valleys of Chilca, Hampa and Phacchanta. Crossing the rugged highest pass of Hampa pass (5000m/16400ft), and the hike to through the base of the massive Ausangate peak makes this trek the incomparable and unforgettable trekking experience in Peru.

Your adventure trip to Ausangate trek begins with exciting 3:30 hours to Chilca. We spend three nights in camping tents all equipment will be loaded by horses and manages by a horseman; you’ll hike with your small luggage.

Ausangate Trek is the most remote trek in Peru; it takes you through the most picturesque mountains scenes and colorful countryside communities. The four-day trek is perfect for those looking short trek with splendid views, traditions and history.

Four-day AusangateTrek is through the Vilcanota Mountain Range located to the east of the city of Cusco and is an impressive range of mountains which include the massive snow Mountain Ausangate (6,371 masl) , three mountains over 6,000 masl and more than 20 mountains over 5,000 masl. Ausangate trek is excellent program offering the traveller everything you could want: spectacular mountain scenery, snow-capped peaks, hot springs, turquoise lakes, glaciers, herds of llamas and alpacas, picturesque villages and traditionally dressed .This beautiful four-day trek starts at Chilca community and finishes at the small Andean village of Tinki.

TOUR ITINERARY – AUSANGATE TREK

DAY 1: Cusco – Pitumarca – Chilca

The 4-day Ausangate trek starts at 08:30 a.m once we pick you up from your hotel and travel by bus toward Chilca small community located in the shores of the Ausangate mountain where we will meet our “arrieros” (horseman). During our bus journey, we will pass several little Andean farms and we will enjoy nice views of the Vilcanota River. This travel will be for 7 hours approximately and we will camp at Chilca camp from where you will enjoy magnificent views of the mountain scenery. No trek today (L-D).

DAY 2: Chilca – Hampa

Early in the morning, we will enjoy the sunrise over the mountains and after the breakfast, we will continue the trek ascending slowly towards Finaya a farming place where we will see herds of llamas and alpacas here also we will stop to have our lunch, continuing the trek through high Andean Valley, we’ll arrive to Hampapampa where we will set up our camp (B-L-D).

Day 3: Hampa – Phacchanta

We’ll start at 07:00 a.m for the longest day. The trail climbs up to Hampa Pass and then, we’ll descend through the ancient Moraine which is also a habitat for mountain Chinchillas (Andean rabbits). We’ll continue the trek by the shores of the beautiful lagoons until we arrive at our campsite located in a colourful countryside community where people live in harmony with nature. At this place, there are natural hot springs where you can relax your muscles after this challenging trek and then enjoy the Pachamanca in the evening (B-L-D).

DAY 4: Pacchanta – Tinki – Cusco

After breakfast, we’ll continue downhill through the opened valley observing Andean people and different types of agriculture also herds of llamas and alpacas ; 3 hours down from Pacchanta to Tinki, and then, we will take our bus to return to Cusco arriving here at 05:00 p.m approximately. (B)

Ausangate trek 4 days includes:

  • Transportation: Private bus Cusco – Chilca (starting point of the trek) and Tinki-Cusco (transfer to your hotel).
  • Guide: English speaking guide (2 guides for groups over 8 people).
  • Meals: 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 3 dinners, 3 afternoon teas; delicious meals prepared by professional chefs. Food includes pancakes, omelets, soups, fresh fruit, avocado, pasta, chicken, fish, meat, rice, all rich in carbohydrates and suitable for trekking, also hot drinks including coca leaf tea which is excellent for the altitude, we always offer a vegetarian option upon request, and we’ll provide available boiled water each morning for your water bottles.

  • Camping equipments: we provide four people capacity tent for two people, brand new four season tents, therm-a-rest, dinning room tent, kitchen tent, toiled tent, seats, tables, tent for guides and kitchen gears.
  • Horses: for camping equipment, food and kitchen gears as well to carry your personal items (7 kg per person) in duffel bags that we provides. Muleteers.
  • Others: First-aid kit and emergency oxygen bottle

  • SLEEPING BAG: Can be rented in our office for US $20 for the entire trek.
