The program

DAY 1: Arrival to Cusco

Explore Inca Trail

The city of Cusco 3,400 masl – Explore Inca trail

Explore Inca Trail starts when you arrive to Cusco at any time. However, we must know your flight details for your reception and transfer you to the designated hotel.
The city of Cusco is located in the Peruvian Andes, Cusco developed, under the Inca Ruler Pachacutec, into a complex urban centre with distinct religious and administrative functions. It was surrounded by clearly delineated areas for agricultural, artisan and industrial production.

When the Spaniards conquered it in the 16th century, they preserved the basic structure but built Baroque churches and palaces over the ruins of the Inca city. The City of Cusco is situated at 3,400 meters above sea level; The City of Cusco maintains the spatial organization and most buildings from the ancient Inca Empire capital and the Viceroyalty. Along its streets and squares, it shows its original urban and architectural characteristics.

Despite urban growth, the sectors that make up the Inca imperial city are recognizable, including the ancient stone structures and their advanced construction technique. Such structures define and enclose streets and canchas (housing units), on which colonial and republican houses, monasteries and churches rose and kept intact all their architectural components and works of art inside them. Nowadays, Cusco has interesting museums and wonderful colonial buildings that you can visit in our guided city tour program.

DAY 2: Sacred Valley of the Incas

Explore Inca Trail

Pisac: The Inca terraces in the sacred valley of the Incas – Explore Inca trail

Then, we’ll drive through the Sacred Valley until the town of Urubamba where we’re gonna stop for you to have lunch; then, we’ll continue for 30 minutes to the town of Ollantaytambo surrounded by the sacred mountains, where we’ll again discover the magnificence of the Inca constructions and the beauty of the local people in their traditional dress. Ollantaytambo is considered as living Inca town because the inhabitants still use the Inca thinks like: the terraces, the aqueducts, the rooms, etc. In this part of Peru, the people still conserve the Inca traditions.

The town and fortress of Ollantaytambo are strategically situated overlooking the beautiful Urubamba River. This major ruin site is known as the best surviving example of Inca urban planning and engineering. It is admired for its huge steep terraces guarding the Inca Fortress and for being one of the few places where the Spaniards lost a major battle during the conquest. We’ll spend the night in this small town before heading out for the start of the hike the next morning.
