Huchuy Qosqo Trek & Machu Picchu 3 days

Huchuy Qosqo trek is a short trekking to the Inca archeological site located at north of Cusco-Peru. This trek is easily one of the shortest treks and is best suited for those with a limited time; this trek runs through stunning views over the Sacred Valley of the Incas, crossing mountain passes, Andean communities and offering a large array of local flora and fauna.

It is an excellent and less beaten trek that can be complemented with a visit to Machu Picchu as an alternative to the saturated Inca Trail. You will have one night camping in the wilderness and the next night will be spent in the hotel in the beautiful, the town of “Aguas Calientes”. This beautiful four day trek starts and finishes at the small Inca ruins “Tambomachay”  and ends in the town to “Lamay” and takes you through the Inca trail to the “Huchuy qosqo” Inca ruins.

The three-day Huchuy qosqo trek takes you to explore the Inca palace of Inca “Wiracocha” located in the upper site of the sacred valley of the Incas. You will find yourself in the most spectacular place ever imaginable. You will be standing in between the almighty mountains that rise above the sacred valley of the Incas and will enjoy the splendor Machu Picchu. The awe-inspiring views of the beautiful mountains swaddled in the glittering white snow, Huchuy qosqo trek takes you to a place beyond your imagination.
After a sightseeing tour around the Cusco city and necessary preparations for the Huchuy qosqo trek, you take a very confortable bus from Cusco to Patabamba village, the starting point of Huchuy qosqo trek. You walk along the glittering Patabmaba valley and move along a well paved path to Taucamarka pass at 4,400m.

Day 1: Cusco – Pukamarca

Huchuy Qosqo trek” starts once we pick you up from your hotel at 07:30 a.m and drive to Tambomachay complex situated in the Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park.

Tambomachay is comprised of a series of ceremonial water fountains, which are thought to have been dedicated to a water cult. We’ll start the trek on the ancient Inca Trail used by Inca people to connect with the Sacred Valley, Pisac, Calca, Ollantaytambo and probably Machu Picchu at the XV century. From this point, you can observe panoramic views of Cusco, traditional neibourhoods as: Santa Ana, Santiago, Puquin, Huancaro, etc, and at this high Andean level we’ll observe, small cactus and some bromelias bushes locally known as Puyas, continuing the trek, we’ll arrive to the first pass and down the other side, we’ll hike along a path that leads to the Ccauca ravine, where we encounter archaeological remains and wild crops, such as tarwi, quinua and a large quantity of cactus.

We’ll continue on to the Queullococha pass at 4,200m, where we may enjoy views of the lake with the same name. Surrounding the area in spectacular views stand the Veronica, Pitusiray, Chicon and San Juan snow peaks. Continuing the path, we walk past the Queullococha Lake, where we may see huallatas, wild ducks and small fish, then climb towards the Challu Challu pass at 4,220 masl. From this point, we’ll observe the Chinchero plains and the Piuray and Qoricocha lagoons. Then, we’ll ascend towards the fourth pass at Rumicruz at 4,250 masl and enjoy a panoramic view of the Qorikancha and the Vilcanota snow mountain range. Finally, we’ll descend towards the Pucamarca community at 4,050 masl, where we’ll arrive later in the afternoon (L-D).

Day 2: Pucamarka – Huchuy Qosqo – Lamay – Ollantayyambo – “Aguas Calientes”

We’ll leave our campsite at 07:00 am and after one hour we arrive to “Huchuy Qosqo” Inca ruins; the trek will be through a narrow canyon we will see a recently restored trail with wooden bridges and some steps a lot of native trees and bushes, a panoramic views of Lamay, Calca, and the Sacred Valley of the Incas. At “Huchuy Qosqo” , we’ll have a guided tour for one hour to visit and explore this interesting Inca complex.

The Inca ruins of Huchuy Qosqo was the dwelling place of Inca Wiracocha; In “Huchuy Qosqo”, we will find Inca buildings with perfect fine stones work, granaries structures called Collcas to store and preserve food, because it was olso an important agricultural center to produce corn; after the tour, we will enjoy the lunch and continue the trek with gradual climb to Taucca Marka Pass 4,400 masl. After reaching the top, we’ll start our last gentle descend for one hour to Cuper “Alto” and then we’ll take our transport to Ollantaytambo and board our train to the town of “Aguas Calientes” 2 hours of spectacular train ride with amazing views at both sides of the valleys with impressive snow mountains (B-L-D).

Day 3: “Aguas Calientes” – Machu Picchu – Cusco

Today, we have to get up very early in the morning and catch the first bus up to Machu Picchu, once at Machu Picchu; the tour guide will explain the meanings, importance and story of Machu Picchu while we’ll have a tour of the city. The tour will take about 2 hours. After the tour, you have the option to climb up to the Huayna Picchu Mountain (check the availability). Afterwards, we will take a bus down to “Aguas Calientes” and we’ll catch the train back to Cusco.

  • Transportation: Tourist bus from Cusco to Tambomachay starting point of the trek and from “Cuper Alto” to Ollantaytambo. Tourist train expedition class from Ollantaytambo to “Aguas Calientes” and from “Aguas Calientes” to Cusco. Bus up and down from “Aguas Calientes” to Machu Picchu.
    Camping equipments: We provide four people capacity tent for two people, brand new four season tents, Therm-a-rest, dinning room tent, kitchen tent, toiled tent, seats, tables, tent for Guides and porters, kitchen gears.
  • Acommodation: 01 night at a basic hotel as accommodation in the town of “Aguas Calientes”.

  • Meals: in the town of “Aguas Calientes” on the final day you must consider a bugged of US$ 15 to 20 in average restaurant.
  • Entrance: to the thermal baths in “Aguas Calientes” (optional) US$ 3.
