Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu

Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu 11 days package perfectly combines the awesome experience of trekking and enjoying the luxurious camping facilities. Yet, not all trek enthusiasts get the chance to experience the Salkantay Mountain because of time constraint.

Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu is probably the world’s most spectacular hike. An unrivalled landscape of incredible jagged peaks, blue lakes, iceberg-loaded rivers and one of the most habited cloud forest. Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu runs from the high Valley up to Salkantay Mountain (6,271 masl) located on the Vilcabamba range on the northwest of the city of Cusco, in the south central site of Peru.

To begin our Salkantay trek, we will drive to the Colonial town of Mollepata experiencing breathtaking mountain scenes and trek to Machu Picchu passing a fascinating setting. We will also explore the lost city of the Incas Machu Picchu. Mt. Salkantay, its adjacent peaks and the Inca xv century building Machu Picchu are the highlight of the trek. Before getting to Machu Picchu, we will also witness spectacular views of peaks like Umantay, Salkantay, Soray and the blue lake of Umantay.

  • Camp the first night in our private campsite at the skirts of Salkantay Mountain (3,800masl) surrounded by stunning views of the snowcapped peaks like: Umantay, Salkantay and Soray.

TOUR ITINERARY – SALKANTAY TREK

DAY 1: Beginning of beautiful trek: Cusco – Mollepata – Sayllapata – Soraypampa

  • We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 6:30 am.
  • Travel by our private car for 3:00 hours.
  • We stop in the village of “Mollepata” for 30 minute to use the toilets and purchase some items for the trek.
  • We meet our “arrieros” (horseman) at the beginning of the trek; they will carry the majority of the things for the trek.
  • In the afternoon well visit the” Humantay” Lake located in the base of the snow mountain
  • Hike for 6 hours by an undulating trail.
  • We include in the tour hot lunch and hot dinner.

DAY 2: Trek over the highest pass (4,600masl): Suyroccocha – Chaullay

  • Get breakfast in the campsite at 7:00 am.
  • Once you are ready with your day bag and start the hike toward the salkantay pass 4,600amsl.
  • You’ll be rewarded by splendid views of the “Vilcabamba ” Mountain range.
  • Enjoy from the hardest day.
  • Today we’ll camp at the border of the cloud forest “Chaullay” community.
  • During the trek we include hot breakfast, hot lunch and hot dinner.

DAY 3: Hike through the Cloud forest:  Chaullay – “Playa Sawayaco”

  • Get breakfast in the campsite at 7:00 am.
  • Once you are ready with your day bag and start the hike down to the warm area.
  • Enjoy today form the wonderful ecology: wildlife.
  • We’ll visit coffee farms and coffee makers; where you can delight a hot coffee.
  • Optionally you can decide to take bath in the natural hot springs in town of Santa Teresa Town (extra cost).
  • During the trek we include hot breakfast, hot lunch and hot dinner.

DAY 4: Hike through the Urubamba canyon: “Playa Sawayaco” – Hidroeléctrica – “Aguas Calientes”

  • Get breakfast in the campsite at 8:00 am.
  • Once you are ready with your day bag and start the hike through the Urubamba valley.
  • After Breakfast; optionally you can decide to do zip line at Santa Teresa Town (Extra cost)
  • The hike of today will through the skirts of Machu Picchu.
  • Arrive to the town of “Aguas Calientes” and have accommodation in the hotel.
  • During the trek we include hot breakfast, hot lunch and hot dinner.

DAY 5: Explore the stunning Machu Picchu:  “Aguas Calientes” – Machu Picchu tour – Cusco

  • Get breakfast very early in the hotel.
  • Leave your big backpack or your duffel bag in the reception of the hotel.
  • Take an early bus up to Machu Picchu to there at very early time.
  • Enjoy the first light at Machu Picchu.
  • 2 – 3 hours tour within Machu Picchu.
  • Free time for further exploration of Machu Picchu.
  • Return by bus to the Town of “Aguas Calientes” to enjoy your lunch.
  • In the afternoon return to Cusco by tourist train.
  • Transfer to your hotel in Cusco.

SALKANTAY TREK TO MACHU PICCHU INCLUDES:

  • Transportation: Tourist bus from Cusco to Sayllapata starting point of the trek and Tourist Train Expedition Class from “Aguas Calientes” to Cusco; bus up and down from “Aguas Calientes” to Machu Picchu.
  • Camping equipment: we provide four people capacity tent for two people, brand new four season tents, Therm-a-rest, dining room tent, kitchen tent, toiled tent, seats, tables, tent for guides and helpers, kitchen gears.
  • Accommodation: 01 night hotel accommodation in the town of “Aguas Calientes”.
  • Entrance fee: to Machu Picchu.
  • Meals: 4 breakfasts ;4 hot lunches; 4 hot dinners and delicious meals prepared by professional chef food includes pancakes, omelets, soups, fresh fruit, avocado, pasta, chicken, fish, meat, rice, all rich in carbohydrates and suitable for trekking, hot drinks including coca leaf tea which is excellent for the altitude. Teatime everyday (tea, coffee, biscuits, popcorn), we offer vegetarian option if you request; we provide available boil water each morning for your water bottles.
  • Guides: English speaking professional guides, 2 guides over 8 people.
  • Cook: Professional chef and Chef’s Assistants.
  • Horses: For camping equipment, food and kitchen gears as well to carry your personal items (7 kg per person) in duffel bags that we provide; Muleteers.
  • Others: First-aid kit and emergency oxygen bottle.

NOT INCLUDE

  • Sleeping bag: can be rented in our office for US$ 20 for the entire trek (every sleeping bag is washed prior to each use).
  • Breakfast: on the first morning. Some hotels offer early morning breakfast service. If not, we stop at Mollepata for your breakfast and also you can buy some items for the trek.
  • Meals: Lunch in the town of “Aguas Calientes” on the final day you must consider a bugged of US$ 15 to 20 in average restaurant.
  • Entrance to the thermal baths in “Aguas Calientes” (optional) US$ 3.
